An underwater MP3 player is a must-have for me. Growing up I was very active with the local swim team. The competition was fun and I did like to swim with my friends, but the worst part were the monotonous practices consisting of swimming hundreds of laps. An underwater MP3 player would have made those laps so much better.
While I am sure that my coach would not allow an underwater MP3 player during practice, I now try to swim laps at the local gym. Swimming these laps by myself can be quite a drain so I make sure to always bring my underwater MP3 player to make the time fly by. Listening to my favorite music while swimming laps can also be meditative. While swimming you don't really have many other distractions so you can be completely by yourself.
When underwater MP3 players were first available they were quite cumbersome and often didn't work well. As with any technology, these players have just gotten better and better.
Current features from the top underwater MP3 players:
- High capacity memory. Many have up to 1GB, or more. You can have hours and hours of music available to you while you swim.
- Small and lightweight.
- Music transmitted by bone conduction. This may seem a little strange, but it works really well! Instead of relying on the transmission of music through the air or water, which can make for a very muffled sound, the music is transmitted through vibrations from the cheek bone to the inner ear.
- High capacity battery. Many underwater MP3 players can run for up to 8 hours or more on a single charge.
